Back in colonial days, a favorite Boston food was beans baked in molasses for several hours. Back then, Boston was sort of awash in molasses – it was part of the “triangular trade” in which slaves in the Caribbean grew sugar cane to be shipped to Boston to be made into rum to be sent to West Africa to buy more slaves to send to the West Indies. Even after the end of this practice, Boston continued as big rum producing city – the Great Molasses Flood of 1919 (which killed 21), ocurred when a tank holding molasses for rum production exploded.Today, Boston baked beans are something of a rarity – there are no companies in the city making it and only a few restaurants serve it.

Are you planning a visit to Boston and wondering what to do for fun at night in Boston? Participating in the local nightlife scene can be a lot of fun when you travel to a new city, but figuring out where the locals go isn’t always easy. Here are 6 of the best Boston nightlife options for you to consider.

1. Begin with a drink and dinner at one of Boston’s restaurants such as Radius or Jacob Wirth. Because so many people live and work right in the city, Boston restaurants are a big part of the Boston nightlife scene and tend to be full every night of the week. With a lot of fabulous chef-owned restaurants and bistros, casual eateries, and even splurge restaurants to sample, Boston foodies often start their evening with a great meal. You can find terrific restaurants in all prices ranges and with all types of cuisines in every part of the city.

2. Spend part of your evening at one of the many Boston comedy club such as the Boston Comedy Connection at the Wilbur Theatre. You’ll have your choice of stand-up, improv, ensembles, open mic, and other formats. You can also find national headliners as well as local talent. Catching a show or two at a comedy club is a popular Boston nightlife option. Although some comedy clubs are strictly 21+, others offer at least some family-friendly shows, especially during early evening hours.

3. Or, spend the evening at the movies. In addition to a few theaters that show first-run movies such as the Loew’s Boston Common, you’ll find lots of other theaters and other venues for watching foreign language, indie, classic, experimental, and other film genres. If you’re a movie buff, going to the cinema may become your favorite Boston nightlife activity.

4. Or, catch a show at a Boston theater such as the Charles Playhouse or the Schubert Theatre. You can see everything from Broadway musicals to Shakespeare to cutting edge theater in Boston’s many theater venues. Most of the theaters are located in Boston’s downtown Theatre District. Boston is fortunate to have a wealth of theater choices on every night of the week. A favorite evening agenda in Boston includes going for drinks and dinner, catching a show, and then continuing on for perhaps more drinks and dancing.

5. Stop by one of the many Boston bars. If you’re interested in exploring Boston nightlife, you’ll probably end up in one (or more) of our popular bars, where a lot of Boston locals have fun at night in the city. You’ll find everything from great sports bars such as Games On! where you can enjoy a drink and food surrounded by big screens to historic taverns such as the Green Dragon Inn where the Sons of Liberty hatched their plans for a revolution to cozy Irish pubs.

6. End your evening at one of Boston’s dance clubs – Where do you go toward the end of the evening? That’s easy – a dance club such as An Tua Nua. Boston has a wide range of choices from casual to dress, all featuring DJs and every kind of music that you can imagine. Most of these popular Boston nightlife spots get going around 11pm – and then close at 2am after last call.

Whether you are visiting this city for the first time, the tenth time or if you are a local resident, there is always something to do.
A couple of factors to first consider are the time of year you are visiting, the weather, and the age of other travelers with you. Most activities listed are open year round. However, some of the activities that involve water may be closed for part of the winter, and if open may be a bit chilly for some.
Here are arguably the top 10 tourist attractions in Boston.

1. Duck Tour
This tour takes you around the city in a land and water vehicle. You will learn interesting facts about the city as your guide drives you around town. Then, you see Boston from an entirely different perspective as your vehicle floats into the Charles River.

2. New England Aquarium
Visit marine life in many forms at this great aquarium. There is lots to see and do for all ages here.

3. Whale Watching
There a few companies that offer whale watches (one is through the aquarium). Most all companies guarantee that you will see whales or they will give you a free ticket to come back for another try.

4. Walk the Freedom Trail
Take a step back in time and learn about the people and places that made Boston famous in the American Revolution. You can take a self guided tour with a Freedom Trail map or you can find many different, knowledgeable guides who will take you on a guided tour.

5. Visit Faneuil Hall
This old, historic marketplace was a gathering place for many politicians and colonists back in the day. Now, you can visit the marketplace and stroll around the surrounding stores. You will find many local street performers in and around the area. You will also find great food, fun and souvenirs here.

6. Eat in the North End
This area is one of Boston’s biggest Italian neighborhoods. The restaurants and atmosphere are wonderful.

7. Ride The Swan Boats
These boats are found in Boston Common and grace the waters of the area. Anyone who has read Trumpet of the Swan will be familiar with these boats.

8. The Museum of Science
This museum has some incredible exhibits. Visitors of any age will enjoy learning something new about planets, gravity or electricity- to name a few- at this hands on museum. The museum also has an IMAX theater.

9. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
This museum boasts the art collection of Ms. Gardner. She was one of Boston’s well to do residents in the 1800s and was friendly with John Singer Sargent, the painter. You will find some of his work as well as that of famous European artists there. The Italian architecture of both the courtyard and museum are beautiful

10. Visit Newbury Street
This area has some of the best Boston shopping. You can stroll throughout this street and some of the surrounding streets for great fashion, accessories and home accents.

Certainly, with the many things to do in this city, there is a Boston attraction or Boston event for everyone.

It is in Boston that many of the historic events that shaped the history of our country transpired and where the founding fathers of the United States first came up with the ideals that framed our Constitution, and this is the biggest reason that Boston is a hot tourist attraction. There are many historic sites in Boston proper, including Boston Harbor – which is famous for its role in the American Revolution, and has become famous today for its great restaurants that sit on the harbor. Cheap flights to Boston will take some pinch out of the pocket.

Boston is such a compact city that walking around from sight to sight is no big deal. Shopping is a big draw in Boston – specifically Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, decorated to look like historical landmarks. Freedom Trail takes the traveler back three hundred years in two miles. There is a red brick path that will take the followers on the path back to the beginnings of the Revolutionary War. The USS Constitution is the oldest war ship that is still afloat and tours are offered daily. Haymarket is Boston’s own farmers market located in downtown Boston; this open air market has a great selection of seafood and other fresh foods. Beacon Hill is one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods with quaint shops, cobblestone roads, gas light lamps and great parks. Checking out Harvard is a must while in Boston; the museums that are on campus are world class and full of interesting artifacts. Harvard Square is loaded with over three hundred street performers. There are quite a few museums in Boston – the MIT museum is different than any other museum around and it displays all manner of robot and other new technology, which is truly fascinating for the technology buff. The North End of Boston is an Italian American community that host great bakeries and restaurants. Samuel Adams Brewery should also make the list of must-sees in Boston. You might also want to take a peek at Fenway Park where some of the most devoted diehard fans in the world cheer their Red Socks on.

Boston is saturated in history and old world charm. The Bostonians are a gracious bunch and make tourists feel welcome. A lot of the sights in Boston are free. There is a nominal charge for admission to some of the museums to offset costs of operation. Walking around the city and soaking up the history is for certainly free and will be one of the best remembered activities. There are always festivals of one kind or another happening in Boston. The Boston Pops put on free concerts during the summer, and their Fourth of July show can’t be beat. Cheap flights to Boston make it all possible. Getting to Boston and staying for awhile can be done even on a shoe string budget.

Boston has always been highly popular among tourist. People can find the best restaurants in Boston, marked with elegance and class.

Boston is one of the favorite destinations of the vacationers and business people. The city boasts of many luxury and semi luxury hotels to accommodate the large number of people who visit it. Though these hotels are equipped with the best of facilities, their exorbitant rates are serious drains on the pocket of those who can’t afford it. For this very purpose, there are a number of affordable downtown hotels in Boston. They come handy to those who want to make the best, of their opportunity to visit Boston at a reasonable and affordable price.

Affordable hotels in Boston provide a clean and comfortable environment at a price that suits every budget traveler. The rates usually start from $79 for a single or $129 for a double room and $159 for a suite. Reservations in these hotels are guaranteed with a credit card and a notice of at least 48 hours, prior to the arrival is required for the cancellation of the same.

The interiors of these hotels might not be too impressive, with the old fashioned mahogany furnishings. However, the old, worn out look renders it an uncanny character and charm of its own.

The amenities of semi luxury hotels such as room service and an onsite restaurant are conspicuous by their absence, but kitchen and laundry facilities make these hotels a favorite choice for extended stay. The stay is made more convenient by the presence of basic necessities such as color television, telephone and air conditioning.

Parking may not be available but the requirement is fulfilled by parking lots located near the hotel.

Affordable Boston hotels, by their simplicity and intimate environment, make people feel at home. This luxury of home away from home is provided at a nominal price, leaving people with sufficient money to enjoy whatever this unique city has to offer.

Boston is as rich in history as it is in culture. Although the state of Massachusetts offers a wide variety of scenic, historical and cultural interests, it is in Boston where many visitors often start their tours. If you are looking for a fantastic destination for your next family vacation, take a trip back in time in American History and visit lovely Boston, Massachusetts. Everyone of every age will certainly enjoy the great history, entertainment, sports, and fun available in this classic Massachusetts city. Whether you make it a weekend trip or a week’s vacation, the options are endless when it comes to things to do and see in the state’s capital. The patriot in everyone will come alive with a trip to Boston.

The historic Massachusetts Freedom Trail takes you to 16 historical sights that played a huge part in the creation of America. You will see Boston on the Freedom Trail all the way from historic buildings to special places to memorials to statues and much more. You start on the trail at the National Park Visitors Center across from the historic Old State House. You can ask the Park Rangers to lead you on a guided tour or you can explore the trial for yourself, but do wear comfortable walking shoes, since you will be walking quite a bit while on the trail.

Baseball fans would feel a never before felt thrill on watching the world famous Boston Red Sox slog it out in Fenway Park, the park famous in the entire baseball professional circuit. Moreover, the Boston Red Sox are back on the victory trail, breaking record after record and on a roll. The football enthusiasts will enjoy watching the fantastic New England Patriots, Super Bowl winners in 2002, 2004, and 2005. When these talented athletes take the field they are a pleasure to watch; it is an experience enjoyed by both adults and kids alike. You will have to check out their schedule to see when they will be playing at the fantastic Gillette Stadium, which is nearly 30 minutes south of the city.

What trip to Boston would be complete without a trip to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market? These great attractions sell everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to great souvenirs of the city. Quincy Market’s newest resident is the professional chef, Emeril Legasse, so see if you can score tickets to his fantastic live show. An afternoon spent exploring Boston Common is rewarding for the entire family. The Bostonians are extremely fond of this green space. Your kids will enjoy playing on the many play grounds and you can enjoy a pick up game of baseball, softball, basketball, or soccer.

Another park, and a big one at that, is the Public Garden of Boston. E.B. White has made this garden and its swan boats famous in his book, “Trumpet of the Swan”. So whenever you are in Boston, bring your family to Public Garden to enjoy a ride on these Swan Boats. Don’t miss Harvard while you are in Boston. A visit to the historic Massachusetts institute of higher education is awe-inspiring. Your kids may get interested in becoming an Ivy League whiz kid after walking on the beautiful and historic grounds of Harvard. They can also buy Ivy League outfit on Harvard Square. These are only a few places that you can go to while visiting Boston. For more information, talk to friends or family who have been to Boston, and do a lot of research online. This way, you can make your trip to Boston a more memorable experience.
